GERARDO MORALES

From a philosophical base, he explores the city through street and night photography, using the image as an aesthetic and critical tool to interpret urban reality.
He holds a degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy “Samuel Ramos Magaña” of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo; he has a master's degree in Philosophy of Culture from the same university; he soon discovered that the language of philosophy, although coarse, was insufficient to interpret and construct reality, so he began to investigate the visual language of photography.
Although his academic studies followed the path of classical authors of philosophy, he quickly began to research topics of aesthetics, art history, philosophy of art, semiotics, etc. He is a founding member of Fotógrafos de Michoacán and the dedicated street photography collective Cantera Rota. He has collaborated in group and solo exhibitions, such as Cardinal Echoes (2023, 2024), Assembly (2024), Inhabiting (2024), Diversity (Solo exhibition. 2023), etc.
He collaborates in the permanent organization of photographic walks, photographic trips, workshops and courses. He has given specialized street photography workshops, individually and with the school of photography and arts, FotoViva. For the last 6 months he has been developing a specific project of night photography with flash, assiduously documenting both the city of Morelia and parts of downtown CDMX.
