Photo walk Tijuana, Mexico

#TLCTijuana Photo Picnic 🧺📷
Some photographs come to life as we walk, while others take on meaning when we share them. The Photo Picnic is a space to pause, discuss our images, exchange ideas, receive feedback, and strengthen our community through dialogue.
On August 22, we’ll meet at Morelos Park in Tijuana to spend an afternoon enjoying photography and community. It doesn’t matter if you use a digital camera, an analog camera, or a phone; what matters is that you bring your photos, your experiences, and a desire to share.
The event will be coordinated by our ambassadors Alonso Soto @4l.soto and Melisa Hernández @lunariver088, who will host this gathering for photographers from the city and anyone else who would like to join.
📍 Morelos Park (main entrance)
5260 Av. de los Insurgentes, Lago Sur, Tijuana, Baja California.
🕐 1:00 p.m.
Please bring some printed photos (preferably) or digital photos, something to sit on comfortably, and, if you'd like, a snack to share during the gathering.
The event is free, but registration is required.

See you soon as we continue to build community through photography!

Following an internal call for submissions from the Tomar la Calle community, 17 photographs were selected to be included in this group exhibition dedicated to the masks, dances, rituals, and cultural expressions that define the identity of the various regions of Ibero-America.
These are the photographers who are already part of this project and who, along with the 13 selected through the open call, will be featured in the in-person exhibition at #TLCFotofest2026 and @mascarasdanzantes

The Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026 program continues to grow, and we want to build it with you.
We believe that a festival is not defined solely by its exhibitions, but by the conversations, encounters, and ideas that bring photography to life. That is why we are opening a call for proposals that can be included in the festival’s official program.
We are looking for activities related to street photography, documentary photography, and visual culture, including:
• Presentations of photobooks and publishing projects.
• Presentation of photography projects.
• Talks, presentations, and panel discussions.
• Roundtable discussions.
• Workshops.
• And any other initiative that contributes to the exchange of ideas about photography.
Proposals may be submitted in three formats:
📍 In-person classes, held in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico.
🌐 Hybrid events, with activities in Xalapa and online streaming or participation.
💻 Online, through Tomar la Calle's official platforms and social media channels.
Activities to be scheduled on the weekends from September 18 to October 17.
We are interested in providing a platform for both established photographers and emerging projects, collectives, schools, publishers, institutions, researchers, and individuals who have something valuable to share with the community.
If you have an idea that could enhance this issue, please send us a brief description of your proposal to the following email address:
📩 fotofest@tomarlacalle.com
Submission deadline: August 12, 2026.
Let's continue building a festival created by and for the Ibero-American photography community. Because the best ideas also come about when they're shared.

Over the past few months, we have been developing and using an (in-house) tool that is now an integral part of Tomar la Calle’s daily work.
This is our proprietary platform designed to manage our calls for submissions in one place, allowing us to organize individual grading processes, series evaluations, work selection, and the selection of profiles and members, among other formats.
Currently, the Ibero-American jury responsible for selecting the photographs for *Somos Calle 2026*, as well as the official community members who select the entries for *Máscaras Danzantes*, are already using this platform, making the review, evaluation, and selection processes much more efficient, organized, and transparent.
In addition to saving time, this tool allows us to manage calls for submissions more efficiently, adapting to the needs of each project and strengthening the way we build our exhibitions and community.
We continue to develop new features so that this platform can continue to grow alongside the Tomar la Calle projects.

"For me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found that it has little to do with the things you see and a lot to do with the way you see them.”

The world is currently facing a global crisis of social disconnection and isolation that the World Health Organization (WHO) has already classified as a serious threat to public health. Although the concept of a "social bubble" emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to limit the spread of the virus, today that "bubble" has become an invisible phenomenon in which people are hyperconnected digitally but deeply isolated physically and emotionally.
Loneliness and isolation are no longer considered purely individual problems, but rather a true collective epidemic that affects the social fabric.
Factors that sustain this "bubble" of isolation
The digital paradox: The widespread use of social media creates superficial connections that often heighten the feeling of emptiness. Online interactions fail to satisfy the biological need for trust and face-to-face contact.
A Misconception of Independence: In large Western cities, extreme self-sufficiency is valued, with freedom equated with living in anonymity and severing community ties.
Global phenomena of social withdrawal: Extreme cases of voluntary isolation, such as hikikomori syndrome (or "closed-door syndrome"), have spread from Japan to Europe and the Americas.
