Este sábado, dentro de #TLCFotoFest2026, nos encontramos en línea para conocer DOBLES, fanzine del fotógrafo Christian de la Huerta.
Publicado en abril de 2026, DOBLES reúne 17 fotografías de doble exposición a color realizadas en película de 35 mm entre 2015 y 2025. Sus imágenes transitan por la fotografía de calle, el paisaje, el trabajo, la naturaleza, el retrato y distintas escenas de la vida cotidiana.
Durante la presentación conversaremos con Christian sobre su trayectoria, el origen del proyecto, las posibilidades narrativas y plásticas de la doble exposición y, especialmente, sobre el proceso de llevar un cuerpo de trabajo fotográfico a una publicación física: selección, narrativa, diseño, impresión y distribución.
También será una oportunidad para hablar de la autopublicación como una alternativa para dar circulación a nuestros proyectos fotográficos, ampliar los espacios donde pueden encontrarse y devolver la fotografía al objeto impreso.

A photograph can tell a story. A sequence can build a narrative.
As part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026, we will be offering the workshop “Creating Photo Fanzines,” led by Dr. Jorge R. Negroe A. @fotonegroe—a space to explore the fanzine as a medium for editing, organizing, and giving physical form to a photography project.
Over the course of five hours, we will explore image selection and sequencing, narrative construction, and the possibilities of the editorial format to take our photographs beyond the screen.
An opportunity to experiment, share processes, and explore self-publishing as an accessible way to get our work out there.

THE MASK DOESN'T HIDE; IT REVEALS.
On Saturday, September 19, we will open “Dancing Masks,” a group exhibition that explores some of the traditions, dances, and celebrations found throughout Ibero-America.
Masks appear in different regions, each with its own forms, materials, colors, and meanings. They connect us through shared practices, yet at the same time speak to what makes each community unique: its history, memory, territory, and way of identifying itself.
Because the person wearing a mask does not necessarily disappear behind it. Characters, symbols, and memories that have been passed down from generation to generation emerge.
The mask does not hide; it reveals. It reveals who we are, where we come from, and what a community chooses to keep alive.
"Dancing Masks" brings together photographs from different perspectives and regions of Ibero-America to introduce us to these expressions through images, viewing photography also as a way to preserve, share, and foster dialogue about our cultural heritage.
The exhibition is part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026 and is presented in collaboration with @mascarasdanzantes

This afternoon, we officially kicked off a new edition of the Ibero-American Street Photography Festival and opened the doors to #SomosCalle, the festival’s main exhibition.
We come together to celebrate everyday life, real stories, our identities, and the different ways of seeing, documenting, and experiencing the street.
Over the next month, Xalapa will serve as a gathering place for photographers and audiences from Mexico and Ibero-America, featuring exhibitions, discussions, workshops, walking tours, and other photography-related activities.

As part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026, we are opening “Guerreros Budokan,” an exhibition by photographer Pavel Vélez @velezpavel, offering an intimate look at the legendary Azteca Budokan Arena in Ciudad Neza, its wrestlers, colorful characters, and the community that keeps this tradition alive.
Creaciones BAM will be joining us at the opening with an exhibition of masks, gear, and pieces created for Mexican wrestling.
An exhibition that celebrates wrestling not only within the ring, but also as part of our culture, identity, and popular imagination.

From September 18 to October 17, Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico, will once again become a hub for street photography.
Tomar la Calle FotoFest is holding its latest edition with a program of exhibitions, talks, workshops, photography walks, hands-on activities, and gatherings, bringing together different ways of observing, documenting, and reflecting on everyday life through photography.
This year, we’re focusing on identity: what we build in our streets, communities, traditions, and ways of living in this land.
For one month, we will showcase the work of photographers from Mexico and Ibero-America at various venues throughout Xalapa, along with public events that bring us together around the image.
Tomar la Calle FotoFest is a community-driven project made possible thanks to the collaboration of photographers, cultural venues, institutions, brands, partner projects, and everyone who joins in year after year to make it happen.

Tomar's Calle FotoFest 2026 adds a new collaboration that strengthens exchanges and ties between photography projects from different regions of the country.
This year, we are welcoming Tabasco as our Guest State, in collaboration with the Tabasco Ministry of Culture and the Tabasco Image Center, which will be participating in the festival program with a series of activities during the final weekend of this year’s event.
On October 16 and 19, Xalapa will serve as a gathering place to share experiences, projects, and different perspectives on contemporary photography.
With this collaboration, we are launching the “Guest State” initiative as part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest, with the aim of building new bridges each year between Veracruz and other photography scenes in Mexico.

Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026 is launching a new international collaboration with the Havana International Photography Festival @f.i.f.habana. Both festivals, members of the International Photography Festivals Association @photographyfestivals (IPFA), agree on the importance of forging connections, creating spaces for dialogue, and building new networks centered on Ibero-American photography.
As a first step in this initiative, the Havana International Photography Festival is joining the event “Where Are the Women Photographers? Visibility, Memory, and Representation of Women in Photography,” featuring its director, Karelys Martín, alongside guest Cuban women photographers.
This event will provide an opportunity to share experiences and perspectives from Cuba, Mexico, and other regions, reflecting on the presence, representation, and participation of women in contemporary photography.
We hope this collaboration is just the beginning: a first step toward building a bridge between the two festivals so that we can develop new projects, exchanges, exhibitions, and joint initiatives in the future that will help connect our photography communities.

Today, September 10, Tomar la Calle is celebrating its 4th anniversary. 📷🎉
In 2022, we started with something simple: getting together to talk about street photography, going for walks, and sharing our perspectives on the city and how we experience it. What began in Xalapa as a gathering centered on photography gradually grew, bringing together people, cities, projects, exhibitions, collaborations, and new ways of connecting.
Four years later, Tomar la Calle is a community that transcends borders and connects photographers from different parts of Ibero-America. We have learned that photography can serve as a starting point for building connections, fostering exchanges, and bringing to light the diverse realities that unfold every day on our streets.
Along this journey have been those who joined us from that very first event, those who have recently joined, our members, ambassadors, contributors, partners, and everyone who has ever walked with us, exhibited their work, shared a photograph, participated in an event, or simply supported this project.
"Tomar la Calle" would not exist without that community.
And what better way to celebrate these four years than by being just a few days away from the start of a new edition of Tomar la Calle FotoFest—the festival that was created precisely to celebrate this community’s anniversary every September and that has now also become a space where we can encounter other perspectives and places.
Thank you for these first four years. There are still many streets to walk, photos to share, and projects to build together.

As part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026, we will tour the Palo Verde Cemetery in Xalapa to observe and photograph its funerary architecture from both an artistic and documentary perspective.
Mausoleums, tombstones, monuments, sculptures, symbols, and objects will serve as the starting point for exploring these spaces as part of our heritage, memory, and identity.

The world is currently facing a global crisis of social disconnection and isolation that the World Health Organization (WHO) has already classified as a serious threat to public health. Although the concept of a "social bubble" emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to limit the spread of the virus, today that "bubble" has become an invisible phenomenon in which people are hyperconnected digitally but deeply isolated physically and emotionally.
Loneliness and isolation are no longer considered purely individual problems, but rather a true collective epidemic that affects the social fabric.
Factors that sustain this "bubble" of isolation
The digital paradox: The widespread use of social media creates superficial connections that often heighten the feeling of emptiness. Online interactions fail to satisfy the biological need for trust and face-to-face contact.
A Misconception of Independence: In large Western cities, extreme self-sufficiency is valued, with freedom equated with living in anonymity and severing community ties.
Global phenomena of social withdrawal: Extreme cases of voluntary isolation, such as hikikomori syndrome (or "closed-door syndrome"), have spread from Japan to Europe and the Americas.
