In this edition of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026, our guest will be Misael Sámano-Vargas @kvelda, coordinator of the Tabasco Image Center @imagentabasco, who will join us to present CRISOL, a publishing project that opens up new possibilities for collaboration, collaboration, and the dissemination of photography.

Technology and artificial intelligence are playing an increasingly prominent role in our photography. But to what extent do they offer an advantage, and when do they start to become a disadvantage?
From planning and capturing images to editing, developing, printing, exhibiting, and sharing our work, we encounter situations in which these tools open up new possibilities, but also give rise to doubts, challenges, and contradictions.
This Saturday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m. (Central Mexico Time), we will meet to discuss, share experiences, and compare perspectives on the role of technology and AI in contemporary photography.
It will be a hybrid event, with in-person participation at the Casa de Xalapa Museum and remote participation by members of Tomar la Calle from Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.

WORKSHOP | REDISCOVERING THE CAMERA OBSCURA
Before the film, the sensor, and the camera as we know it, there was the camera obscura.
As part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026, we took to the public space to return to one of the fundamental principles of photography and discover, through hands-on experience, how light can reveal the world before us.
During the activity, we'll learn how a camera obscura works, build one using simple materials, and experiment firsthand with image formation.
The workshop will take place at @caasaneblina in the Barrio Mágico de Xallitic, transforming this iconic Xalapa venue into a small laboratory for experimenting with light, images, and the principles that gave rise to photography.
An activity designed to introduce participants to photography through its most basic elements: light, darkness, and curiosity.

As part of the Simultaneous Ibero-American Walks of “Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026,” Xalapa is joining an event in which photographers and communities from different cities will take to the streets at the same time to explore their surroundings through photography.
In Xalapa, we’ll meet at 9:00 a.m. at the former San Bruno Factory to begin a walk open to all perspectives, styles, and levels of experience. It’s not about taking “the perfect photo,” but rather about walking, observing, talking, and sharing the experience of photographing together.

What happens after you take a photo?
At the Tomar la Calle FotoFest Photographers' Gathering, we discussed something that is often left out of the conversation: opportunities to showcase work, exhibit, find venues, generate visibility, and make a name for oneself.
Together with Mariana Padua @padumargo, Daniela Retana @dannyretana_, Jennyfer Parra @jennyferparraphotography, Karelys Martin @kare_martin, and Sunny Quintero @sunnyquintero, we discussed the paths a work of art can take after it is created, the venues available for sharing it, and the real opportunities female photographers have to circulate their work and connect with new audiences.
Because taking photographs is only part of the process.
It's also important to find places to exhibit them, figure out how to make them visible, and create opportunities for a work to reach a wider audience.
Tomar la Calle FotoFest also aims to be that kind of space: a place for people who take photographs to meet, exchange ideas, and share their work—a place where they can find new venues to showcase their work.

#SomosCalle is the main exhibition of Tomar la Calle FotoFest, but it’s also a great way to understand why we put on this festival.
Because, in the end, everything revolves around the encounter.
The public encounters photographs, artists, stories, and different ways of looking at everyday life. Photography steps out of the spaces where we usually seek it and encounters other places, other walls, and other people. Photographers from different regions come together. And a community that shares the street as a space for observation, creation, and memory has the opportunity to recognize one another, converse, and continue building connections.
That's also what Tomar la Calle FotoFest is all about: creating the conditions for things to come together.
Photography and the city. Images and new audiences. Photographers and other photographers. The community and the community.
And the fact that all of this is happening in Xalapa matters.
May the city become a hub for street photography during these days, drawing perspectives from different places and also bringing our own streets, spaces, and community into that conversation.
#SomosCalle is not just an exhibition.
It’s a photograph on a wall. A person stopping in front of it. A conversation beginning. Someone discovering someone else’s work. One gaze meeting another.
Maybe that's what taking to the streets is all about: coming together there. And during Tomar la Calle FotoFest, doing so from Xalapa and through the lens of photography.

IBERO-AMERICAN SPOTLIGHT | TOMAR LA CALLE FOTOFEST 2026
Different cities, contexts, and ways of understanding the street come together in *Foco Iberoamericano*, an exhibition that brings together the work of seven photographers from different regions of Ibero-America.
In addition to being part of this exhibition, the photographers served on the jury responsible for selecting the photographs for *Somos Calle 2026*, the main exhibition of Tomar la Calle FotoFest.
Foco Iberoamericano offers an overview of contemporary street and documentary photography from our region: different ways of observing everyday life, recognizing our differences, and discovering the gestures, situations, and experiences that also connect us.
This year, the exhibition returns to the public sphere and takes over the Pedestrian Gallery of the Carlos Fuentes Cultural Corridor, bringing photography directly to one of the busiest streets in downtown Xalapa and turning it into a meeting point between the images, the city, and those who walk through it.

The world is currently facing a global crisis of social disconnection and isolation that the World Health Organization (WHO) has already classified as a serious threat to public health. Although the concept of a "social bubble" emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to limit the spread of the virus, today that "bubble" has become an invisible phenomenon in which people are hyperconnected digitally but deeply isolated physically and emotionally.
Loneliness and isolation are no longer considered purely individual problems, but rather a true collective epidemic that affects the social fabric.
Factors that sustain this "bubble" of isolation
The digital paradox: The widespread use of social media creates superficial connections that often heighten the feeling of emptiness. Online interactions fail to satisfy the biological need for trust and face-to-face contact.
A Misconception of Independence: In large Western cities, extreme self-sufficiency is valued, with freedom equated with living in anonymity and severing community ties.
Global phenomena of social withdrawal: Extreme cases of voluntary isolation, such as hikikomori syndrome (or "closed-door syndrome"), have spread from Japan to Europe and the Americas.
