This September, in Mexico City, we're going to take to the streets… and the pulquerías, too.
Our next photography walk will take us through Xochimilco and Tepepan to explore, through photography, a tradition that continues to be part of Mexico City’s identity and daily life: the pulquerías, guided by an expert, the wonderful Nes @nezcalito
We'll start at the Xochimilco Light Rail station to visit La Botijona and La Diana; then we'll continue on to Tepepan and end the tour at Nomás No llores.
The intention isn't to go from bar to bar—although the route lends itself to that—but rather to observe and photograph these spaces, their characters, atmospheres, details, and the culture that surrounds pulque. You don't have to drink to participate.

WORKSHOP | REDISCOVERING THE CAMERA OBSCURA
Before the film, the sensor, and the camera as we know it, there was the camera obscura.
As part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026, we took to the public space to return to one of the fundamental principles of photography and discover, through hands-on experience, how light can reveal the world before us.
During the activity, we'll learn how a camera obscura works, build one using simple materials, and experiment firsthand with image formation.
The workshop will take place under the Xallitic Bridge, in the Xallitic “Magical Neighborhood,” transforming this historic site in Xalapa into a small laboratory for experimenting with light, images, and the principles that gave rise to photography.
An activity designed to introduce participants to photography through its most basic elements: light, darkness, and curiosity.

This year, the Colgadero Fotográfico is transforming into a collective art project centered on traditional festivals, dances, and masks, using the photographs reviewed during Punto de Fuga the previous day as a starting point.
The selected images will be displayed in a public space to create a temporary, open installation, taking over the Xalapeño Recreation Center for a few hours and transforming printed photography into a meeting point for artists, images, and visitors.

Different cities, contexts, and ways of understanding the street come together in *Foco Iberoamericano*, an exhibition that brings together the work of seven photographers from different regions of Ibero-America.
In addition to being part of this exhibition, the photographers served on the jury responsible for selecting the photographs for *Somos Calle 2026*, the main exhibition of Tomar la Calle FotoFest.
Foco Iberoamericano offers an overview of contemporary street and documentary photography from our region: different ways of observing everyday life, recognizing our differences, and discovering the gestures, situations, and experiences that also connect us.
This year, the exhibition returns to the public sphere and takes over the Pedestrian Gallery of the Carlos Fuentes Cultural Corridor, bringing photography directly to one of the busiest streets in downtown Xalapa and turning it into a meeting point between the images, the city, and those who walk through it.

PHOTOGRAPHERS OF DAILY LIFE | MEXICAN WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS
A street is also shaped by the diversity of those who observe it.
This year, Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026 once again welcomes “Fotógrafas de la Vida Cotidiana,” an exhibition by Mexican Women Photographers @mexicanwomenphotographers, a community founded in 2022 by photojournalist Sunny Quintero @sunnyquintero to create spaces that highlight Mexican women working in street and documentary photography.
Now in its fourth edition, the project brings together the perspectives of 93 Mexican female photographers living both inside and outside the country, creating—from various regions—a comprehensive record of everyday life: its encounters, characters, contrasts, gestures, and small events.
As part of Tomar la Calle FotoFest, 41 photographs from this exhibition will be on display in Xalapa, forming an exhibition that will give us a glimpse into a part of this broad panorama of Mexican perspectives on everyday life.
An exhibition that brings together different experiences and perspectives on street photography, and that highlights the importance of creating spaces to learn about, share, and showcase the work of women in contemporary street photography.

Photographs travel, too. They change locations, are seen by new people, and connect stories.
"Calles Viajeras" comes to Tomar la Calle FotoFest 2026 as a photographic installation created from postcards: images that travel across territories and now come together to tell us about everyday life, the places we inhabit, and the different ways of looking at the street.
The installation will take place at Ancestros Café Cultural, blending into the space to create a journey through suspended photographs, messages, and postcards. An exhibition that invites visitors to approach, observe, read, and discover images from different places.

The world is currently facing a global crisis of social disconnection and isolation that the World Health Organization (WHO) has already classified as a serious threat to public health. Although the concept of a "social bubble" emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to limit the spread of the virus, today that "bubble" has become an invisible phenomenon in which people are hyperconnected digitally but deeply isolated physically and emotionally.
Loneliness and isolation are no longer considered purely individual problems, but rather a true collective epidemic that affects the social fabric.
Factors that sustain this "bubble" of isolation
The digital paradox: The widespread use of social media creates superficial connections that often heighten the feeling of emptiness. Online interactions fail to satisfy the biological need for trust and face-to-face contact.
