This Saturday, October 31, we’ll gather in the streets of Maracaibo for a photography walk dedicated to documenting one of the city’s most iconic religious and cultural celebrations: La Bajada de la Chinita.
Every year, this celebration brings together thousands of people to honor Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, affectionately known as La Chinita, and marks the beginning of the patron saint festivities and the Christmas season in Zulia.
After the Mass, the statue of the Virgin is carried down from its niche along a specially installed ramp to the main entrance of the Basilica, amid expressions of faith, devotion, and popular tradition.
Through this walk, we seek to document not only the religious celebration, but also everything that happens around it: the people, the encounters, the gestures, the emotions, and the different ways in which a community lives and builds its identity in public spaces.

In November, we will once again open our call for applications to welcome new photographers from Ibero-America into the Tomar la Calle community through two participation categories: Ambassadors and the Photo Catalog.
We aim to continue building a network of people who see photography as a space for connection, exchange, collaboration, and sharing, bringing together different perspectives, cities, and regions through street photography.
A call for submissions open to participants throughout Latin America, inviting anyone who wishes to share their work, build connections, and become part of a photography community that continues to grow beyond borders.

After a month of exhibitions, gatherings, talks, workshops, walks, and lots of photos, we’ve reached the end of yet another edition of Tomar la Calle FotoFest | Ibero-American Street Photography Festival.
Over the past few weeks, Xalapa once again became a hub for street photography. The images found new spaces, the public encountered different perspectives, and, above all, those of us who share this passion had the opportunity to come together, exchange ideas, experiences, and ways of understanding everyday life through photography.
We would like to thank every photographer who shared their work, our esteemed Ibero-American jury, our guests, everyone who participated in our activities, the cultural venues that opened their doors to us, and the institutions, sponsors, collaborators, and partners who made this edition possible. And, of course, to everyone who joined us from Xalapa and from different parts of Mexico and Ibero-America.
Tomar la Calle FotoFest is much more than a program of activities or a series of exhibitions. It is a collective effort to create spaces for photography, build community, open up opportunities, and demonstrate that coming together is also a way to help our photography scene grow.
We bid farewell to this edition with much to be grateful for, new connections, projects to be developed, and the conviction that it is worth continuing to make room for photography in our communities.
Although the festival is coming to a close, some of our exhibitions remain open to the public, so there are still opportunities to view the images.
Thank you for believing in us, participating, and making another edition possible.
The street is still there, full of stories waiting to be discovered. We'll keep meeting there.

We gathered for the closing of #TLCFotofest2026 with @jazzielmallorga and @bercikonyi for a conversation with @kvelda from @imagentabasco to learn about the current state of the street photography scene in Tabasco, the guest state of this third edition of the Ibero-American Street Photography Festival.
We spoke with Misael Sámano-Vargas @kvelda from @imagentabasco about “Crisol,” the photographic publishing project of this @culturatabasco space, and how it is becoming a new platform for showcasing and distributing photographic work—for now, from Tabasco.

The world is currently facing a global crisis of social disconnection and isolation that the World Health Organization (WHO) has already classified as a serious threat to public health. Although the concept of a "social bubble" emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to limit the spread of the virus, today that "bubble" has become an invisible phenomenon in which people are hyperconnected digitally but deeply isolated physically and emotionally.
Loneliness and isolation are no longer considered purely individual problems, but rather a true collective epidemic that affects the social fabric.
Factors that sustain this "bubble" of isolation
The digital paradox: The widespread use of social media creates superficial connections that often heighten the feeling of emptiness. Online interactions fail to satisfy the biological need for trust and face-to-face contact.
A Misconception of Independence: In large Western cities, extreme self-sufficiency is valued, with freedom equated with living in anonymity and severing community ties.
Global phenomena of social withdrawal: Extreme cases of voluntary isolation, such as hikikomori syndrome (or "closed-door syndrome"), have spread from Japan to Europe and the Americas.
